Hello, I am Ashley and my daughter's name is Amelia. She has a hemangioma on her right ear. We first noticed about a month after Amelia was born, four little bumps behind her ear.
We showed the doctor at her next visit and she let us know what it was. From there we were sent to see a dermatologist at Boston Children's Hospital. We were given a few options including oral medicine and a topical ointment and the idea that she will have surgery in a few years to remove whatever is still there.
Regardless of what we picked, the ointment or the medication, it would still leave a large bump and we knew Amelia would have surgery so we decided to go with the topical ointment.
As Amelia has grown, her hemangioma has shrunk and changed less than expected and still looks almost the same as when it peaked. It took about a year and a half to hit the peak.
Amelia's hemangioma has become a part of her and makes her special. Before she heads to preschool in a few years we will have it removed, we want her to grow as much as possible before we do it and the doctor feels that before pre school will be the perfect timing.
